Norma Tanega - Walkin’ My Cat Named Dog

Tanega’s debut album, released in in 1966, is a captivatingly skewed take on 60’s pop and folk. Released before she achieved success as a hit songwriter for (lover) Dusty Springfield, the album remained obscure and difficult to find until the 90’s.

A brilliant songwriter in both experimental and popular fashions, Norma paints a vivid vision of 60’s counterculture from a street level perspective, her sincere and expressive lyrics buoyed along by folk both jagged and gentle. ‘A Street That Rhymes At 6 am’ is a particular highlight, as Norma poetically describes her search for a life free of restrictive norms.
