Terry Callier – What Color Is Love

Released on the mighty Cadet records in 1973, this album is a beautiful suite of love drenched movements, travelling through jazz, soul and folk. Both melancholic and ethereal, Callier’s 3rd studio album displays his abilities of story telling through raw voice and trance inducing guitar.

The producer, composer and arranger behind this sound is Charles Stepney. A classically trained, yet progressive musician, whose genius has been immortalised; creating and guiding many individuals and groups from this era such as Minnie Ripperton, Rotary Connection and Earth, Wind & Fire. In Callier’s seven track work, Stepney’s orchestration of strings and brass lifts up to the blissful, powerfully descending to a cacophony of percussion and vocal layering
